Let's go on an excursion across a galaxy far…okay, you know where I'm going with this.
Produced by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Concord is a new multiplayer shooting game set in the Concord galaxy. Players become galactic guns-for-hire, creating a custom team with unique skills and even deeper storylines.
Among the roster is Bazz, a badass character touted as being "bold on the battlefield and in her fashion game." And she's more than just a fast-paced, knife-wielding character. Bazz is the first Black trans woman ever presented as a playable character in a video game produced by a major studio.
Yes, she is making herstory!
Mila Jam, a Black trans singer, songwriter, actress and activist, revealed on social that she lent her voice and likeness to the character.
In its first report on LGBTQ+ representation in the video game industry, GLAAD found less than 2% of games on major PC and console distribution platforms feature LGBTQ+ representation or storylines, with many LGBTQ+ gamers experiencing high levels of harassment, from voice chats to community forums.
Jam's schedule has been, well, jam-packed, including performing alongside the iconic Chaka Khan at Chicago Pride, working on her upcoming album, and performing at this year's Democratic National Convention, where she also made history as the first openly trans artist to perform at the convention. In an earlier interview with Out, Mila shared her thoughts on these history-making moments.
"As a marginalized person of color and someone in the queer community, I'm always told that I can't, I shouldn't, I'm not supposed to be where I am," she reflects. "But I just never believe that to be true."
"I am, I should, I will, and I do."
Concord is available to play on PlayStation 5 and PC.
